The Design Process

Every garden is different. As such, the design process is made flexible to suit the scale and scope of your project. Some gardens may only need new planting, while others may involve spatial reorganisation with elements such as walling, paving, steps, and terracing, and the introduction of new features such as pools, greenhouses and outbuildings.

An initial phone call will help me to understand your needs and the scope of the work, to discuss whether you need a design service or a one-off consultation visit.

1. Masterplan

We start with a site survey, analysis, and your brief. From there, I prepare concept drawings, models, and mood boards to explore ideas. After feedback, I produce a detailed masterplan supported by high-quality visualisations — a clear, engaging way to communicate the design and give you confidence in how your garden will look and feel, as well as providing a basis for contractor estimates.

2. Detailed Design

Most projects benefit from further detailed planning, whether that’s planting plans, paving specifications, lighting layouts, or drawings for features such as water elements or terraces. The level of detail depends on your site and ambitions, but this stage ensures contractors have accurate information and the final garden reflects the masterplan vision.

3. Project Monitoring

During construction, I offer site visits and project monitoring to help ensure work is carried out as planned. Regular checks keep the build on track and allow for smooth progress.

4. Planting & Aftercare

I source plants from wholesale nurseries, oversee installation, and can provide customised maintenance schedules so your garden continues to establish and thrive long after completion.
